Course objectives
Economy of Public Sector (SDEV) The course extends the knowledge gained especially in the previous courses Public Economy and Public Finance. In the first 4-hour consultation more detailed explanation is given of the causes of the public sector s existence, its structure and effectiveness, and students are provided with detailed information about the seminar project s structure and requirements for its topic and aim. Another consultation is devoted to the application of external and internal factors of efficiency of public sector areas and to the principal instruments of its management, i.e. public choice, public audit, including the problems of government contracts and subsequent evaluation of projects presented. Next two consultations cover the problems of the economy and management of individual branches of the public sector; drafts of seminar essays of course participants may be used here. Examination requirements: seminar essay. Examination: written exam with a follow-up discussion over a seminar essay.
