Course objectives
Apart from the introduction to the topic of global problems and sustainable development, the course is divided into three modules. The first deals with socio-ecological problems with stress on the issues of natural resources, population growth and environmental degradation. The second module focuses on the socio-economic problems – esp. poverty, socio-economic backwardness, international indebtedness, international economic relations etc. It also deals with the aspects of war and peace and international security. The final module is devoted to problems of anthropo-social nature – humanitarian and cultural issues of mankind. At the end of the course students will be able to understand the complex interactions and interplays among the different global problems; use aquired knowledge to formulate his/her own opinions and deductions; conduct a rational and well-informed discussion about global problems; express and intepret different points of view; and hence contribute to overally better general understanding and awareness of these multi-dimensional global issues.
