- Course objectives
- The course consists from a general and a specific part.
A general part introduces Health Care Economics to the students. It brings them into some theoretical aspects of the HC system, focusing mainly economic and finantial aspects, in order to help them to understand complex reality of current Czech Health Care system. A special part deals with a the national Health Care system.
There are three blocks of issues:
The first block should bring the students elementary concepts and to show them basic issues of HCE (health market specificity, troubles with measuring, market failures...). Students should be able to know main problems, underestand the role of the government as well as other parties (payers, providers) doing their business at health service markets. It could help them to understand and assess current changes in Czech Helath Care
The second block applies above mentioned basics onto health care financing. Students should understand, why it is that difficult to find out "the best" way of paying for HC.
The third block describes and analyses main legal, finantial, managerial, and institutional aspects of the Czech Health Care system.
The course is primarily designed to serve as a stepping stone for practical career in public administration, health insurance companies, and/or a position at HC provision institution. - Syllabus
- 1st block: Introduction to the HC Economy, Health markets, special features of the demand and supply of helath care.

- There are two requirements for that need to be fulfilled to be eligible to take the final part of the examination:
(1) Assignment;
(2) Required minimum score 50% from the midterm. The midterm creates 40% of the final score. - Language of instruction
