Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquire practical skills in work with the handicapped in water environment.
Syllabus
  • The course is focused on nonconventional approaches in swimming and comes out from nature and motor experience at motor activities in water. The method is focused on independent movement in water, it may help to learn to swim and to remove feelings of anxiety from water environment. The core of the Halliwick Method is joy from swimming and stay in water. It influences the balance of personality and cooperation with an individual or a group. Ones own desire to move and to practice breathing under water including relaxation techniques is used. Play is a basic means of this method. We focus on positive thinking and motivation features and head towards development and understanding of personality.
  • Biomechanical principle of movement in water and swimming.
  • Biomedical characteristics of swimming, effects of swimming on health.
  • Psychological characteristics of the method and its typical features – "face to face method" (work with an assistant).
  • Removing anxiety and stress from water environment, training of coping methods and coping strategies.
  • Training of particular stages of movement in water – practical part:
  • - entering the water environment
  • - basic position in water (arm-chair)
  • - movement in water (bike)
  • - rotation in water (vertical, lateral)
  • - relaxation
  • - turbulence
  • - swimming style
  • – group work.
