Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the principles of the gatrointestinál tract functioning. Students will understand the processes of digestion, absorption and utilization of nutrients in the human body.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course students will be able to:
- describe the activity of the human digestive system
- know the basic meaning of the individual components of nutrition
- Describe basic biochemical processes in the human body
- explain basic physiological principles of gastrointestinal tract function
- describe the process of digestion, absorption of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals and vitamins and water, and their inclusion in metabolic processes taking into account the extent and severity of the physical load
- understand the basics of regulation of metabolic processes (effects of enzymes, hormones)

  • 1. Gastrointestinal tract, function, regulation mechanisms
  • 2. Carbohydrates. Digestion and absorption of carbohydrates
  • 3. Proteins. Digestion and absorption of proteins
  • 4. Fats. Digestion and absorption of fats
  • 5. Energy balance, metabolism of nutrients
  • 6. Vitamins, minerals and their role in the human body
  • 7. The role of water in the body
