Course objectives
The aim of the course is to obtain the necessary information about possible occupational accidents and illnesses, as well as information about the risk factors associated with specific work activities of the person. The aim of the course is to provide students with the necessary information based on the legislation that sets the conditions for health protection at work. Another objective is to provide the student with information on the concept of working environment adaptation that fully respects current legislation.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student is able to:
1. define the subject and meaning of ergonomics in the context of health protection at work
2. List the basic areas of ergonomics
3. Identify the key points in the legislation that determine the safety of the work environment in different jobs
4. Assess the ergonomic risks of working systems with the use of checklists
5. Design an appropriate working environment due to the nature of work and working environment conditions
6. Review changes before and after adjusting factors of the work environment
Syllabus
  • Lectures:
  • 1. Introduction to ergonomics - definition of ergonomics, basic areas of ergonomics, special areas of ergonomics
  • 2. Prevention of stress in relation to workload characteristics
  • 3. Occupational Safety - Legislation and Obligations of the Tripartite
  • 4. The effect of sitting on Human musculoskeletal system- basic biomechanical and health aspects, type of seating, seat requirements
  • 5. Work with a computer - ergonomic requirements for working with a computer, health aspects of working with a computer
  • 6. The effect of standing on human musculoskeletal system- basic biomechanical and health aspects, corrected standing
  • 7. Manual handling of loads - risk factors for handling loads, handling of loads, use of rehabilitation aids for lifting the load
  • 7. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders of the spine and upper limb
  • a) risk factors of back pain
  • b) back pain in relation to occupational stress
  • c) etiology and risk factors of work-related musculoskeletal upper limb disorders
  • d) ergonomic principles in the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal limb disorders
  • 8. Ergonomic evaluation of working systems - basic criteria and parameters of ergonomic evaluation of work systems
  • 9. Basic principles of assessment of ergonomic risks at work
  • a) Procedures for reducing local muscular load b) Principles of work organization for repetitive type of hand and wrist work c) Principles of tool use and manipulation tasks
  • Seminars:
  • 1. Methods in terms of ergonomics (observation, interview, questionnaires, measurement, experiment, analysis, evaluation, design of work environment)
  • 2. Ergonomic checklists for assessing ergonomic risks of the working environment (checklist for basic ergonomic risks, work place layout, use of hand tools, handling of loads, work surfaces)
  • 3. The use of laboratory methods for evaluation of influence of work environment on human organism (use of thermography and manual dynamometry)
  • 4. Use of subjective assessment of work load on labor (questionnaires for employees and employers)
  • 5. Practice the proper lifting techniques
  • 6. Adjustment of a correct sitting position for jobs with a seat predominance
  • 7. Adjustment of a correct standing position for jobs with a standing predominance
  • 8. Compensation exercises in the work environment - application of basic relaxation, stretching, strenght and breathing exercises in the work environment
  • 9. Concurrent work and physical activity in the office (use of dynamic workstations)
