- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is to get the students acquainted with the most important political philosophers and traditions of political thinking. The students will be introduced to key concepts of political philosophy, history of political ideas and doctrines. Reading of selected texts is an integral part of the course.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction. Premodern political philosophy: 2. Political philosophy before Plato, Socrates, and Plato. 3. Aristotle, political philosophy after Aristotle and Roman political thinking. 4. Christian political thinking, the fathers of the church (Augustine) and scholastics (Thomas Aquinas). Modern political thinking: 5. Liberalism. 6. Conservatism. 7. Socialism. 8. Anarchism and libertarianism. 9. Nationalism and fascism. 10. Feminism and environmentalism. 11. Communitarianism versus liberalism. 12. Final test.
