Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain different patterns of poverty; work with information on Roma poverty in the Czech Republic; create a research proposal on given topic; make resoned decisions about housing and integration policies; make deductions based on acquired knowledge of modes and sources of urban poverty; independently interpret conducted case studies of Roma poverty.

  • Week 3: Poverty and marginality; life in a ghetto.
  • Week 4: Poverty and marginality; space and exclusion.
  • Week 5: Favellas. Ciudad de Deus
  • Week 6: Poverty among Roma people.
  • Week 7: Reading week
  • Week 8: Studies of Roma poverty in the Czech Republic
  • Week 9: Re-interpretation of a case study
  • Week 10: Migration of poverty
  • Week 11: Legitimity
