Course objectives
This course is focused on deeper understanding of inner subjective world of adolescents. The teaching is based on discussing of typical everyday experience of adolescents (school context, leisure time activities, relationships to peers, family, authorities, self and identity development) as well as on discussing problems and worries of adolescents (in terms of risk behavior, health and social problems).
Syllabus
  • (1) What is typical for a period of adolescence. Historical and cultural context. Adolescent development and social changes.
  • (2) Adolescence as a process of self-definition and identity formation.
  • (3) Social relationships of adolescents. Family context, relationships to parents, siblings, attachment and relationships, a role of style of parenting. Relationships among peers, peer groups, friendships, romantic relationships. The meaning of social support, social acceptation, social rejection. Development of social relationships.
  • (4) Relationships to parents and self-development of adolescents.
  • (5) Adolescents' risk behavior (the role and meaning of risk activities, social and health risks, empirical research). Prevention and intervention of risk behavior, protective factors.
  • (6) A period of emerging adulthood. The meaning of this period in the industrial societies, cultural specifies. Typical psychological features of this period.

Course is based on reading of relevant literature (books, papers] as well as on face to face communication (by using of different methods and technigues of group facilitation and communication).
