- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to discuss this psychotherapeutical approach on a well-informed level, with regards to its historic, present and integrative perspectives. They will be able to interpret current research in this field, and to evaluate different approaches and its effectivity thanks to presented casuistics.
- Syllabus
- 1. Family therapy in relation to other major psychotherapies. Historical origins of family therapy. Basic assumptions of systemic perspective. Communication in family. Areas of inspirations in the beginning of family therapy. 2. Family as a psychosocial unit. Family role in development. Main characteristics of family system (idea of homeostasis, rules, boundaries, structure, rituals, development, gender, narratives etc.). Family under social and cultural influences in 21. century. 3. Main schools of family therapy. Three colummn model. Formulation and main focus of family therapy according different models. Structural therapy, transgenerational model, psychodynamic perspective, Milan school and beyond. 4. Post-milan development. Language and social construction of the problem and solution. Social constructionism, feminist ciritique, and reflecting processes in family therapy. Narrative family therapy. Collaborative and dialogical approaches. 5. Clinical aspects of family therapy. Therapy as emotional, cognitive and social scaffolding. The process of family therapy (beginning, middle stage, ending). Interviewing and questioning. Indications, mental health and psychosomatic medicine. 6. Current situation of family therapy in the Czech Republic and abroad. Associations, institutes, training programs. Research in family/systemic therapy. Other issues.
