- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to:
Present a basic overview of the assumptions, concepts and methods of mainstream economics while cultivating a critical perspective stemming from hetorodox economic and other streams of thought. Emphasis will be placed on the environmental aspects and implications of the topics discussed.
For a deeper understanding of the course topics,it i suggested students register for the course: ENSn4659 Seminar - Economics for environmentalists. - Learning outcomes
- After having taken the course, the student will:
understand basic economic assumptions, concepts, assertions and thought patterns, informed by an environmental perspective,
be able to discuss the hidden assumptions behind the concepts and assertions of mainstream economics and their environmental implications,
enhance her/his capacities of critical thinking, reflection, discussion and dialogue. - Syllabus

- 3.Supply and demand, efectivity and productivity, general equlibrium model and pareto optimum
- 4.A critical look at supply and demand, efectivity and productivity, general equlibrium model and pareto optimality

- 7. Economic growth as an economic evergreen, questions around green growth

- Lectures supported by selected Internet information and a film, structured discussions during class, regular compulsory readings during course.

- Evaluation: compusory readings during course weeks, minimum attendance at 5 classes, voluntary written test, oral examination. For each course, students receive a detailed sylabus which includes an update of the required readings.
