Course objectives
The course reflects various aspects of the digitalisation of society from the perspective of sociology. It is a new subject, its exact form may evolve slightly.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- reflect on the effects of digitalization on society
- discuss problematic aspects of digitalization
- to understand sociologically the ethical problems associated with robotics and artificial intelligence
- apply sociological theories to the phenomenon of digitisation
Syllabus

  • - digitalisation of the labour market (robotics, new occupations, virtualisation)
  • - digitalisation of education (weakening of the traditional role of universities, impact on non-/accessibility of education)
  • - digitalisation of entertainment (end of hegemony of linear television, disintegration of the central music market, blurring of boundaries of national cultural spaces)
  • - digitalisation of public administration (accessibility of public services, digital gap, case of Estonia)
  • - inequalities in digital skills (research results from the PREČOBI grant)
  • - digital warfare
