Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course is conceived as theoretical background for social work with vulnerable families with emphasis on the child protection. Through reflection of theoretical knowledge to teaching students to understand current threats to children, youth and their families. Students will gain knowledge not only about the main theoretical concepts, but they acquire an overview in the empirical data and instruments of social work, which promote improvement of the well-beingu children and young people and contribute to improving the functioning of families at risk.
Learning outcomes
Students completing the course will be able to: To assess the life situation of families with children;
To assess the well-being of the children in the family;
Assess the resources of children and families;
Reflect on theoretical concepts in working with families with children;
Choose a suitable theoretical concept for the work with a family with children To design interventions for improving the well-beingu children and families;

  • Introduction to work with the family – the variability of approaches to work with family;
  • Child Well-being;
  • Protection of children's rights;
  • The source of threats to children;
  • Resilience of children;
  • Child in institutional care - standards for the protection of the rights of children in institutional care;
  • The child in substitute family care;
  • Support the strengths of children and families;
  • Support the functioning of the family interactions – the initial phase of the work with the family;
  • Support the functioning of the family interactions – the middle phase of work with the family;
  • Support the functioning of the family interactions – the final work with the family;
