Course objectives
This course surveys basic information about political history in the selected countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe in the 20th century. The course is focused on history of Austria, Yugoslavia, Ukraina and Belarus which are specific examples of possibilities of political development in Central Europe.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction: atomisation of Central and Eastern Europe after the First World War; 2. Austrian First republic 3. Nazi ocupation; 4. Austrian Second republic; 5.Yugoslavia between the World Wars; 6.Yugoslavia in the years 1941-1985; 7.The dissolution of Yugoslavia 1985-1991; 8.Ukraine in the era of Leninin; 9. Ukraine in the era of Stalin; 10.Ukraina between Chruščov and independence; 11.Belarus 1918-1953; 12. Belarus 1953-1991; 13. Closing test.
