Course objectives
This course introduces many of the major approaches in the field of critical psychology. The development of critical psychology from the 1970s in the 20th century until today will be emphasised. Students will be able to re-interpret a rigid theoretical paradigms and approaches in psychological practice by a critical way. They should be able to apply critical psychological methods to analysis of marginal and so called alternative approaches in psychotherapy as well.
Syllabus
  • 1. History of critical thinking in psychology. The crisis of monadic paradigm, crisis of/in social psychology. 2. History of critical points of view in practice. Ctitical positions against psychoanalysis. Dehumanisation. 3. Critical psychology in the world: an overview of contemporary themes. (http://www.discourseunit.com/arcp/5.htm) 4. Pop-psychology and language used in psychology. 5. Meta-science. 6. Methodology. 7. Trans-disciplinarity. 8. Narrative psychology and psychotherapy. 9. Presentations: self help industry; indigo kids, Internet counselling, biofeedback, psychology in media world; aura-soma; New Age "treatments" and fringe approaches in psychotherapy; holding therapy; etc. 10. Revolution in psychology - Ian Parker.
