- Course objectives
- The students will take up with the modern criminology and social work with offenders of the 20th century and its theoretical concepts. Special attention is dedicated to the methods of criminology and penology research and actual problems of penal justice. After that the rest of the course is divided into 2 parts.
In part 1 – criminological part – is speaking about social pathology, types of criminality and its social impact. Also is presented actual progress in criminality, with special attention in computer, property, violent, economic, drug-related, prostitution-related and organized criminality.
Part 2 is devoted to the questions of punishment and social work with offenders. Students are taking up with the history of penal ideas, European and Czech concepts of the penal law and penal system, types of punishments and roles of social workers. Also is talking about execution of the punishment, its efficiency and postpenitentiary care. - Learning outcomes
- The student is well versed in the topic peniternality, theories of crime, the actual situation of criminality and social work with offenders in Czech republic and in the world.

- Assessment methods
- Active involvement in teaching is essential. The seminars work with one-page assignments developed by students during the year based on their own motivation and presented in lectures. These tasks are mainly voluntary, but they are scored, access to the exam is conditional on at least two points. The exam takes the form of an oral examination. The final evaluation consists of the points obtained for the tasks and for the knowledge of the exam.
