Course objectives
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the issue of legal protection of design. The course is designed not only for law students, but for all subjects of the MU, in which attention is focused on the creation, analysis and theory of design. After completing of this course, students should obtain basic information about the legal protection of designs in the European Union, USA, Japan, including international protection of the Hague Agreement.
Attention is focused on understanding the essence of the design protection (registration principle, the examination principle, informal methods of protection), the form of design protection (copyright, unregistered design rights, registered designs, trademarks, unfair competition), the prevention of protection (the ability to search in online databases), ways of dealing with rights (transfer of rights, licenses), as well as to promote the rights of protection obtained.

Teaching methods
The course consists of lectures and seminars. Students non-lawyers who are involved in creating a design, are expected to bring their creations, as well as questions and problems which should be dealt with law students. The seminars are intended to the active participation of students through their own presentations.
Law Students: legal protection of designs in countries outside the EU, the presentation of individual form of protection applied to a specific case.
Students creating design: presentation of their own creations, the way they work, the definition of problems they are confronted in their work.
Lectures are supplemented with power-point presentations available in the Information System of Masaryk University. The course emphasizes the skill ability in a form of law clinic.
Assessment methods
colloquium; the presumption of colloquium is the active participation on seminars, conducting a presentation, demonstrating basic knowledge of the legal protection of designs.
