Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to deepen practical skills and orientation in use of various legal information systems.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, student is expected to be able to: - understand basic functions of legal information systems and describe any legal information systems through these functions
- find basic legal information on the Internet
- find acts other legal documents using ASPI, Codexis and Beck-online
- evaluate credibility and validity of retrieved legal information and properly cite retrieved documents
- conduct legal research of assigned legal issue
- analyze the legal issue based on legal research
Syllabus
  • Lectures
  • 1. Terminology and concepts. Advanced search queries in ASPI, Beck-online and Codexis.
  • 2. EUR-Lex.
  • 3. Formulation of search strategy based on specifics of individual systems. Legal research. Output of legal research with commentary.
  • 4. Annotation. Updating of legal research outcomes.
  • 5. Writing legal analysis.
  • 6. Specialized modules (eg. calculators). Presentations of seminar works.
