- Prerequisites
- After ending this course the nutritional therapist should: - have a logical approach to problem solving from biochemical point of view - judge of impact the given composition and quantum of food in a healthy person - understand the changes in metabolism in some diseases/disorders - help with a suggestion of nutrients intake throughout the different life stages (such as pregnancy, childhood, the middle years, menopause, old age and also sport and leisure time activities, ...) - combat the abundance intake of energy according to nutritional habits - assess the dietary „advices“ and diets „systems“ very popular with some magazines - know main necessities of nutrition in disease prevention and patient care

- Course objectives
- Upon completion of this course the student should understand: biochemical processes characteristic for individual organs and tissues and principles of its regulation, metabolic interrelationships between metabolism of nutrients under various conditions in organism, principles of maintenance of homeostasis and acid-base equilibrium in the body.
- Syllabus
- The metabolic interrelationships among body organs, principles of regulation. Hormons and hormonal regulation. Biochemical aspects of nutrition. Trofics. Digestion in GIT. Biochemistry of blood. Balance of minerals and water. Biochemistry of internal environment and acid-base equilibrium. Functional biochemistry of liver cell. Biochemistry of pancreas. Biochemistry of kidney. Mammary gland, milk and its composition. Functional biochemistry of muscle tissue. Fundamental principles of immunochemistry. Functional biochemistry of connective tissue and skin. Biochemistry of nervous tissue and vision.
