- Course objectives
- Learning outcomes of the course Diagnostics and management in Orthopaedics: At the end of the course the student should be able to describe all basic types of diagnoses in orthopaedics, should be able to explain the use of diagnostics methods including of modern diagnostics tools leading to establishing of the diagnosis, should be able to apply knowledges in discussion of differential diagnosis and would be able to propose adequate management.
- Syllabus
- Programme of the course Diagnostics and management in orthopaedic surgery The fourth – sixth school year, VSDL071 The course is given in PC and video presentations in the study room. The course is prepared for students interested in orthopaedics. It is focused on differential diagnosis in main topics in orthopaedics. Modern trends in the management are discussed. Topics: Diseases of bone (types, diagnostic tools, differential diagnosis, management). Diseases of joints (types, diagnostic tools, differential diagnosis, management). Endoprosthetics (types, material, fixation in the bone, complications, modern trends) Muskuloskeletal tumors (types, diagnostic tools, differential diagnosis, management). The hip in adults (anatomy, type of diseases, differential diagnosis, management). Congenital anomalies (types, diagnosis, diagnostic tools, differential diagnosis, management) Frequent orthopaedic diseases in childhood (types, diagnostic tools, management). Deformities of the spine (anatomy, types, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, management). Fractures of the spine (types, diagnosis, management). Back pain ( types, imaging, differential diagnosis, management, modern trends) Diseases of the shoulder (types, diagnostic tools, differential diagnosis, management). Diseases of the wrist and the hand (types, diagnostic tools, management). Diseases and injuries of the knee (types, diagnosis, diagnostic tools, management). Diseases of the foot (types, diagnostic tools, management).

- Teaching methods
- Teaching methods: PC presentation, bedside examination of the patients, interpretation of laboratory tests and imaging methods, videos.
- Assessment methods
- The students should be present in all teaching hours of the course. Thereafter they are entitled for one credit. There is no specific examination at the end of the course.
