Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand and be able to explain basic principles of interdisciplinary communications.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: - to describe the components of the communication process; - to distinguish verbal and nonverbal communication; - to list and describe the factors influencing the communication process; - to list the types of communication; - to distinguish communication styles; - to conduct a formal and informal interview with the patient and his / her family; - to collaborate in a team; - to distinguish the assessment and devaluation elements of the communication attitudes of health professionals; - to identifying problematic / specific areas of the communication process (communication barrier, patient / family non-cooperation, aggression in healthcare, specific needs of the patient and family with respect to age, health, disability, etc.); - to use alternative and augmentative communication systems; - to explaining the patient's attitudes to health and illness, describing the stages of experiencing the illness (from the patient, the family, the attitude of the health care professional); - to describe the issue of dying and death, to identify the desirable skills of the health care professional in the subject matter; - to use effective communication strategies to provide nursing practice - to apply productive behavior and communication skills in practice.

  • - Communication - definitions, components of the communication process, verbal and nonverbal communication, types of communication - General principles of communication - Factors affecting communication - Barriers in the communication process - No / Effective communication - Communication in general nurse work - Communication specifics for different age groups - Specifics of communication with respect to disability (sensory, mental, physical) - Disease (from the point of view of the patient, his / her family, health care professional), communication with patients in various phases of illness - Dying and death - Communication styles - Assertiveness - Conflict and conflict management - Aggression in healthcare - Burnout syndrom - Self-evaluation
