- Ortoptics (programme LF, B-SZ)
- Course objectives
- After this course of lectures student will be able to define a term clinical orthoptics. Student will have a theoretical and practical knowledge of orthoptic and pleoptic procedures suitable for particular types of binocular vision defects in children and adults. Student will be able to perform basic differential diagnosis, he/she will be able to plan orthoptic treatment programme in terms of the therapeutic methods selection and the time schedule, he or she will have the knowledge required for setting control parameters for monitoring the effectiveness of therapy and for stating the prognosis. Student will have a basic knowledge of how his or her treatment plan communicate with cooperating strabismologist and parents, resp. with the patient.
- Learning outcomes
- After this course of lectures student will have a theoretical and practical knowledge of orthoptic and pleoptic procedures suitable for particular types of binocular vision defects in children and adults.
- Syllabus
- Lectures are focused on the theoretical basis of clinical orthoptics. Lectures will be focused on complex ortoptic and pleoptic therapy in particular defects of binocular vision, such as amblyopia (strabic, anisometropic, emetropic, meridional, organic, etc.), concomitant strabismus (essential, accommodative, non-refractive, alphabetic forms, mikrostrabismus, a rare form of strabismus, vertical squinting etc), incomitant strabismus (oculomotor nerv pareses, supranuclear pareses, CCDD, etc.). phoric difficulties (exoforic, esoforic, vertical and cyclo forms). Special attention will be paid to the binocular vision rehabilitation of adults (eg. after the implantation of intraocular lenses, after neurological disorders, etc.). Lectures will touch marginally the issues of visual therapy in adults (sportsmen, ABS, etc.).
