Course objectives
“Understanding the basic principles of epidemiology of infectious diseases and mastering practical tasks related to prevention with an emphasis on laboratory operations.”
Learning outcomes
"The student will be able to: Perform basic tasks related to decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization. Understand the basics of healthcare facility hygiene and surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Organize and ensure the safety of laboratory operations. Handle biological material correctly. Evaluate operational and epidemiological protocols and control the laboratory’s operational regime. Conduct microbiological environmental control and verify disinfection and sterilization procedures. Understand and master the principles of hand hygiene, including microbial control and verification of proper technique."

  • 1. Principles and objectives of epidemiology. Process of disease spread. Characteristics of infectious agents. Classification of infectious diseases.
  • 2. Anti-epidemic measures. Disease surveillance and epidemiological vigilance system.
  • 3. Active and passive immunization.
  • 4. Respiratory infections.
  • 5. Alimentary infections.
  • 6. Hepatitis. HIV/AIDS.
  • 7. Sexually transmitted infections.
  • 8. Zoonoses.
  • 9. Parasitic infections.
  • 10. Epidemiological aspects of the operation of health care facilities. Basic hygiene conditions.
  • 11. Safety of laboratory operations. Operating regulations. Occupational diseases.
  • 12. Methods of disinfection and sterilization. Clean rooms. Microbial control of environmental contamination.
  • 13. Hand hygiene.
  • 14. Current epidemiological situation and infectious threats.
