Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:
to understand the basic mathematical operations;
to learn the mathematical procedures using in chemistry.
Syllabus
  • 1. Real numbers: algebraic operations, calculations with fractions, irrationaly numbers, binomical theorem.
  • 2. Imaginary and complex numbers: pure imaginary numbers, complex numbers in various forms, logarithms of complex numbers.
  • 3. Functions and their use in chemistry: the term and the definition of the function, types of functions (linear, quadratic, cubic, transcendent, goniometric), graphical interpretation of functions, direct and indirect dependences.
  • 4. Equations and their use in chemistry: linear equations, quadratic equations, cubic equations, equations of the n-th step, transcendent equations, goniometric equations.
  • 5. Systems of equations and their solution: Gauss’s method.
