Course objectives
This is a survey course of American History from pre-Columbian times to the present day. Its aim is to serve as an introduction and foundation for further studies in American culture and literature. The lecture will deal with American History chronogically while the seminar will try to put into context and "make sense" of that history, concentrating on issues such as constitutional freedoms, slavery, the West, immigration, etc., and show their effect on modern America.
