Course objectives
This course provides practical applications for English including speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students will improve their facility with the language through discussions, exercises, assignments and presentations. The goal of this course is to maximize the use of English in various formats through activities designed to improve students'language skills. This course is an opportunity to explore various teaching techniques and ways to use a cultural context for facilitating language use. It will be integrated with materials from the American History seminar.
Syllabus
  • This class meets weekly and requires active participation. Students will be required to give brief prepared talks, write in an on-line forum, and produce an annotated bibliography. Students will complete the final units in "Inside Out Upper Intermediate" and begin working in "Inside Out Advanced." Students will end the semester with a credit test.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Assessment of student work is based on 100 points in the following areas: Class participation 15 points Annotated bibiography 15 points One minute talks 15 points Forum entries 20 points Credit test 35 points Total maximum 100 points Minimum pass mark for the credit test is 70%. Minimum pass mark for the course is 70%
