Course objectives
Language as the most important means of communication among people underlies permanent changes. Factors of language change are on the one hand extralinguistical, on the other hand language internal. All areas of the language system (phonology, morphology, syntax and the lexicon) are interdependent and changes in one area often result in changes in other areas of the system as well.
Syllabus
  • During classes, the most important tendencies of language change in the second half of the 20. century (pronunciation, morphological reduction, syntactic changes, lexical changes and loan words, new orthographic conventions, pragmatic tendencies) will be presented.
