Course objectives
Main objective of this course is to become familiar with a structure and a fundamental principle of geography as a filed of science that has a significant meaning for the current society. It is very important to analyze a character, organization and main demands of the academic study of geography at the Faculty of Education. Students will also become familiar with the academic style of study with an emphasis on self-searching of the resources and self-study. Within the scope of this subject, some lectures will be presented by renowned Czech geographers.
Syllabus
  • Study at the Masaryk University, Faculty of Education, Department of Geography. Scientific cognition. Classification and development of particular sciences, application to geography. General tendencies of the development of scientific cognition. Systems, systems paradigma, systems theory, synergy, application to geography. Basic geospheres of the Earth in relation to the determination of the object of geography. Classification of the current object of geography. Lectures of the renowned Czech geographers will be included into the program of this course during the semester.

Assessment methods
lecture; to complete this course successfully, it is necessary: A: in time (credit week): attendance (including The Observatory) or compensation of the absence by the essay, To submit the short entrance essay on the topic: Geography for the Current Society and Science, Geographers in the Real World and the final essay on the same topic in 8-10 sides including the lectures and literature.
