Course objectives
Students will work on improving their English in all four major skill groups: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Classes will move quickly through the course book, Inside Out Advanced. At the end of the course, the students will be able to interpret complex texts and make deductions based on acquired knowledge, lead a discussion, and express their ideas meaningfully in a written form.
Syllabus
  • The topics based on Units 8, 9, and 10 of Inside Out Advanced are "Cyberspace," "Law," and "Firsts." These topics will be supplemented with additional readings from the daily press in english (such as The New York Times or The Guardian) chosen by bothe the instructor and the students themselves.
  • The grammatical topics will likewise be drawn from the chapters 9-10 of Inside Out Advanced and will include using discourse markers, using modals to talk about the past, inversion after "meither, nor, such and so," expressing contrast by "but, however, and whereas," and patterns with the verb "get."

Teaching methods
The teaching method will be class discussions, group presentations, weekly reading, writing, and listening exercises.
Assessment methods
Course Requirements: Attendance is highly recommended but not mandatory.
One essay
One presentation
Three quizzes on reading and grammar covered in Units 8-10. These quizzes will have 10 questions for 10 percent each. the average of all three quizzes must be at least 70 percent in order to pass the course.
Homework and preparation as advised.
All the above mentioned assignments are part of the continuous assessment.
Final exam at the end of the semester will consiste of a written and oral parts. The written exam will include three parts - grammar and vocabulary, reading comprehension and listening comprehension. The passmark is 70 percent of points. The oral part will include a short conversation about an assigned topic between the examiners and the student.
