Course objectives
The goal is to provide students with facts on Romany history and culture and to enable them to have a deeper view on the Romany mentality and help thus improve the common way of living between the Romany people and the majority society.
Syllabus
  • Introduction into the Romany studies, outline of Romany secondary literature and main international Romany authors. History of Romany people in significant periods, migration waves, typical Romany crafts, difficult life of Romany people at the time, majority society impacts into the community life of the Romany people.

seminars - discussion about themes of Roma problematics
Assessment methods
a) Synopsis from a book on Romanology – the details will be provided at the seminar. Agreed synopsis will also be published in a faculty LMS in the section “Konspekty z pohledů studentů” b) Seminar work – an essay on: “What is my perception of Romany people, what is the perception of my surroundings (friends, family and parents) and why? Minimal range: 3 pages.
