Course objectives
The course continuous the courses of the courses Geoinformatics for teachers, Geographic Information Systems and Cartography. Student shoul be able to evaluate and create the atlas conceptions and maps including the cartographic principles and procedures; to use knowledge about the atlas creation and skills in practise. At the end of the semester, students should be able to design the geography lesson using atlas, evaluate and design the conception of the own atlas, to elaborate it and present.

  • Basis of the atlas creation, principles of the map’s creation
  • The function of atlases in teaching Geography
  • Getting to know about Czech and foreign atlases; emphasis on the school atlases
  • Atlases on websites
  • Description of the chosen atlas
  • Comparison of different conceptions of atlas and deduction of its usage
  • Independent work
  • Design of the own conception of atlas, project Atlas at School

Assessment methods
Credit; the lessons take place in the GIS Laboratory. To complete this course successfully, it is necessary to elaborate the concept for an atlas, including the commentary of its practical usage in teaching geography at primary and secondary schools; to elaborate an essay on topic: Geography Plan with a Maximum Work with Atlases.
