Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to improve students understanding of family education in a broader educational context. The emphasis is laid on students develompment of pedagogical thinking. At the end of the course the student will be able to: - interpret new knowledge - apply new knowledge and skills in practice - use new knowledge reasonably to further one’s own development - make and express decisions about situations related to the subject and use newly acquired knowledge to react to unknown circumstances - present reasonable arguments within the boundaries of the subject including a search for and finding of further interdisciplinary links
Syllabus
  • Topics Biological basis of parent and partner behaviour, the influence of culture on a family, family network and the concept of family in a society. The significance of family environment for childrens personal development, material factors in family environment and their impact on child upbringing, psychological-demographical factors in family environment and their impact on child upbringign, cultural-pedagogical factors and their impact on child upbringing. The starting points (strategies) of family education. parents and family members as educators. The specific features of the role of a father, mother, siblings and grandparents as educators. Educational basis and means of emotional and intellectual development of a child in pre-school and school age; developing childs imagionation and creativity, children games and toys. Child preparation for school, tasks and means of family education in the period of school age. The problems of parent-teacher and school-parent cooperation.

- theoretical preparation in the form of a seminar with an emphasis on a discussion of relevant issues and independent work on the seminar extended essay
Assessment methods
- a seminar extended essay of 5 pages submitted both in the electronic form and a hard copy to the teacher at a date agreed - a presentation of a seminar task with an outline in the student’s own words of about 15 minutes of length
