- Course objectives
- After completion of this course students will have deepened their basic knowledge from the field of education students with moderate intellectual disabilites and from the field of the education of visually impaired students focused on those who have also intellectual disabilities. Students will know strategies to enhance the specific competences of students with visual impairments and intellectual disabilities and they will know the content of specific competences curricula. The course will deal in detail with communication competences issue and other communication systems of students with visual and intellectual disabilities used by the students. They will know the strategies to enhance functional vision, work with optical aids and the process of learning to read and write Braille alphabet by students with visual and intellectual disabilities. They will meet strategies for training orientation and mobility, independece skills and social competence by both goal Gross - students with visual impairments and students with intellectual disabilities.
- Syllabus
- 1. Strategies in educating students with visual impairments and intellectual disabilities. 2. Communication and communication aids of children and students with visual impairments and intellectual disabilities. The development of communication competences, systems of alternative and augmentative communication, specific issues of speechtherapy in students with visual and intellectual disabilities. 3. The development of compensatory sense, typhlographics, tactile book. Teaching Braille alphabet and Braille station. Modification of teaching Braille in students with visual and intellectual disabilities. 4. The development of functional vision. Visual stimulation and training of visual functions and skills, work with special aids. 5. Special aids and assistive technologies for children and students with visual impairments and intellectual disabilities (visual stimulation programmes and use of I-pad). 6. Developments of independence skills and orientation and mobility for goal group of students (O&M aids, alternative techniques. 7. Development of social skills – social learning, social drama, social interaction, methods and techniques. 8. Career preparation of students with visual and intellectual disorder, professional choice, career counselling and strategies. 9. Other forms of activization of students with visual and mental disabilities (sport, artistic and cultural activities of visually impaired, organizations). 10. Social service providers for persons with visual impairments with other disabilities in adulthood, the groups of users (Tyfloservis, TyfloCentrum, Domovy pro osoby se ZP, chráněná bydlení, PRRS Dědina, další neziskové organizace).

Education of children and students with visual impairments and intellectual disabilities: oral exam, presentation of a lesson for students with visual impairments and intellectual disabilitis, with the use presented aid in previous course
