Course objectives
At the end of the course, students: are acquainted with the predecessors of the genre, classical and temporary leading authors and with detective stories for children and youth; learn text analysis, emphasis is given at methodological possibilities offered by detective stories. The output will be a methodologically focused seminar work coming from the reading of recommended authors.
Syllabus
1. Introduction to the genre problems. 2. Predecessors (Vidocq, Balsac, Hugo, Gaborieu. 3. Classical period (Leroux, Leblanc, Malet, Simenon). 4. “Néo-polar” authors. 5. Contemporary French detective fiction, literary awards, festivals 6. French detective fiction for children and youth 7. Methodological exploitation of detective fiction for children and youth (www. Polar.fle).
