Course objectives
Students get the information about the possibilities of strenghtening the specific competences in people with visual impairment with a practical instruction. Main objectives can be summarized as follows: students should understand and learn the use of different types of remedial and compensatory aids, low-vision devices - theory and practice; to learn the IT for visually impaired persons - special software and hardware.

  • 2. Compensatory aids, current legislation
  • 3. Visual impairment and its simulation
  • 4. Optical aids for near distance
  • 5. Spectacle Magnifiers, hyperoculars
  • 6. Optical aids for middle distance:systems Galileo, Kepler
  • 7. Optical aids for distance: monoculars, systems Galileo, Kepler
  • 8. Non-optical aids: use of writing by persons with low vision and by blind people
  • 9. Computer and television screen magnifiers
  • 10. Elektronical daily organizers for blind persons (ntb, PAC Mate, Aria, RPT). Talking mobile phones
  • 11. Braille monitor display and Braille printer
  • 12. Use of PC by persons with visual impairment, speciál software and hardware. Other services for visually impaired people.

Teaching methods
lectures, class discussion, practical excercises
Assessment methods
Lectures take place in special centres for visually impaired Tyfloservis, o.p.s. and other special organizations. Students get a practical instruction in use of compensatory aids. Lectures are essencial for getting a credit, as well as an essay about special aids.
