Course objectives
The aim of the lecture is the introduction to lexikology as a discipline in relation to other linguistic disciplines, respectively in relation to individual linguistic levels/plans. Students will get acquainted with basic terminology (word, word meaning, relation of form and meaning etc.). They will practice the basic semantic relations between the lexemes, gain an core perspective on the vocabulary layers taking into account the current developmental tendencies with the emphasis on applying lexikological knowledge in practice. There will be particular examples of practical lexical analysis involved using the available dictionaries of the Czech language.
Learning outcomes
After the lecture, the student will: - understand the dichotomy of lexicon and grammar; - student will know the relation(s) of lexicology to other linguistic disciplines; - student will know lexicological, or lexicographical terminology; - student will be able to enumerate particular meaning relations between lexemes; - student will know all the vocabulary layers; - student will understand selected trends in vocabulary development; - student will understand the practical use of the acquired knowledge in practice.

Relation between form and meaning of the word (synonymy, polysey, antonymy]. 6. Development of Czech vocabulary. 7. Tendence in the development of the Czech vocabulary.

Teaching methods
Teaching is based on the methods of critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, etc.
Assessment methods
Type of teaching: lecture. The student prepares a worksheet for her/his future teaching. The exact instructions for the elaboration of the worksheet will be given in the IS in the study materials. The successful completion of the subject requires both the above-mentioned worksheet and the application of knowledge in a following seminar and a student´s own study of literature.
