Course objectives
The purpose of the subject is an application of the linguistic and didactic knowledges to the text analysis in the term of phonetics, lexicology, morphology, syntaxis and orthography.
At the end of this course, student shall be able:
(a) to find suitable language phenomena in text (special type of pronounciation, special type of declination or conjugation, sentence, compound sentence...);
(b) to alalyse texts and explain his views and to give reasons for the views.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, student shall be able:
(a) proofreading; to correct the mistakes in the text, to define and circumscribe the them;
(b) to correct inadequate turns of phrases in texts;
(c) to analyse the sound layer of reading/spoken text and explaine the correct pronounciation, analyse the phonems and change of pronounciation in the continuous text (asimilation of the voicedness and place of articulation;
(d) to explain grammatical structure of the word, to identify the grammar base and grammar affixes of it;
(e) to make word-forming analysis of the word and complex analysis of his morphematic structure;
(f) to identify multiverbal lexical unit in the text.
Syllabus
  • 1. Purposes and methodology of the text analysis.
  • 2. Orthography and spelling in Czech; mistakes and spelling errors in texts, explaining of them (consonant groups, geminates).
  • 3. Some morphological phenomena:
  • - some problems of declension of substantives - of Czech words and loanwords;
  • - pronouns; types of pronouns, grammatical forms of pronouns, declension of pronouns;
  • - verbs; grammatical structure of the verbs: stem, grammatical suffixes and terminations; verbal classes and paradigms;
  • - spelling alternance and declension.
  • 4. Word-formation and word-building, identification of the word-formation proceedings and formants in texts, identification of lexical units in text.
  • 5. Analysis of word-building and word-formation of various lexical units.
  • 6. Lexical units of various spheres of vocabulary in texts (words-historism, tushery, problems of neologism; synonyms, anthonyms...).
  • 7. Sentencial functions of word classes (word cathegories); semantic and formal relation in the sentence.
  • 8. Sentencial structure. Clause, compound and combined sentence in the text. Relationships among sentencial elements in the clause and among sentences in compound and combined sentence. Sentencial elements and subordinate clauses.

Assessment methods
Credit requirements: Written examination in the final week of term.
The test includes the knowledges and ability that are described in abstract and syllabus.
The written examination includes 30-40 questions / language phenomena, student shall correctly answer 75 %.
