Course objectives
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to acquaint students with methods of stimulation of visual functions and their use in practice. In addition, students are acquainted with special optical aids and their use (edge filters, prismatic lenses, magnifiers, binoculars) and using special neoptical aids (digital magnifying devices, special software, self-service aids, spatial orientation aids). Students will be acquainted with methods of school counseling.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- describe methods of visual stimulation and use them
- recommend a suitable special optical aid and teach the client
- recommend a suitable special non-optic aid
- accompany by people with severe visual impairment
- provide qualified counseling on the rehabilitation of people with visual impairment

  • • Visual stimulation active and passive
  • • Visual hygiene
  • • Regular optical aids to correct refractive defects (spherical, toric, bifocal, multifocal lenses)
  • • Special optical aids (edge filters, prismatic lenses, Franklin type lenses, magnifying glasses, telescopes)
  • • Special non-optic aids (information barriers, self-help tools, orientation aids)
  • • Methodology of teaching spatial orientation and independent movement
  • • Accompanying people with severe visual impairment
  • • Advice on the rehabilitation of people with visual impairment
  • • Psycho hygiene
