- Prerequisites
- A practice-oriented discipline which emphasises fieldwork with various groups of seniors. During the course, the students will undergo practice at home with the elderly, in seniors’ clubs, hospitals, chronic disease hospitals, hospices, universities of the third age, in various areas of social work which are connected with the social situation of the elderly. The students will study the situation of the seniors, use a variety of means to activate individuals and groups, analyse and reflect upon the practice. The outcome is a practice report – methodology which they will present during class meetings. The report will be written in the standard way at a length of at least ten pages. The course will also involve a research investigation in the field during which the students will learn about the needs of seniors and apply the concept of supply and demand in gerontagogy. The investigation will follow either the qualitative or quantitative methodology and its results will be presented during class exercises. The research can be conducted in groups.

- • Create a selection of activation techniques oriented at the elderly • Contact an institution for the elderly or an organisation that offers a broad array of activities for seniors • Compare the development of social education in Europe and the USA • Undergo practice in the activation of seniors • Compose a methodology, keep a practice journal and present outcomes • Application of the research in practice, writing a paper

- Syllabus
- A practice-oriented discipline which emphasises fieldwork with various groups of seniors. During the course, the students will undergo practice in the homes of the elderly, seniors’ clubs, hospitals, chronic disease hospitals, hospices, universities of the third age, in the seniors’ homes, in various areas of social work which are connected with the social situation of the elderly. The course will also involve a research investigation in the field during which the students will learn about the needs of seniors and using the concept of supply and demand in gerontagogy. The investigation will follow either the qualitative or quantitative methodology and its results will be presented during class exercises. The research can be conducted in groups. The practical activities will be performed at home with the seniors. Once a month the students will meet with the teacher and the progress of the practice will be evaluated. The course is closely connected with gerontagogy and supervision.

- Assessment methods
- The students will spend 30 hours engaged in activating seniors in various facilities or in their homes. They will submit a report from the practice, reflection and an analysis of the practical activation of the seniors. The course also includes a research investigation into the situation of the elderly, which will be articulated in a paper. Towards the end of the semester, there will be presentations of the practice outcomes and presentations of research analysis. 1x paper (practice journal, reflection upon activation, work methodology) 1x brief presentation for group reflection Areas of practice and research Seniors’ homes, clubs, education of the elderly, social work, hospitals, hospices, leisure time activities, etc.
