Course objectives
The subject presents a complex area of work with scientific information and information literacy, which is a necessary competence of university students, and also is not optimal covered within their fields of study. The aim of the course is to introduce students topics, areas and particular skills that will enable them to effectively manage the demands of the academic environment and also develop their own research activities. Graduates of the course acquire skills to define its information needs, decide which sources of information are appropriate and locate relevant sources and also prepare a good scientific text, which will respect the principles of citation and publishing ethics.
Syllabus
  • Syllabus The course is taught as blended learning, and is conceived as a cycle of thematically linked seminars with emphasis on practical mastering of knowledge transmitted.

    • Introduction to information literacy, information literacy performance models, principles of information hygiene
    • Libraries and working with library catalogs
    • Searching in professional electronic resources
    • Searching in professional electronic resources with a focus on open access resources
    • Evaluation of professional resources and medial literacy
    • Work with Microsoft Word

    • Presentation skills

Teaching methods
Teaching will be conducted online with the help of videos and study materials in the Interactive Curriculum. Students will perform practical tasks and expand their information skills.
Assessment methods
For the verification is necessary doing tasks within the thematic sessions. The lecturer will provide students constructive feedback. The condition for successful completion of the course is fulfilling the tasks and final group discussion, when the teacher verifies the acquired knowledge of students.
