- Course objectives
- The course combines familiarization with the general theory of the didactics of literary education, and practical application of the methods of literary education to specific conditions of the work in nursery schools. Students will above all acquire various activities of the interpretative, reproductive, and creative kind while working with artistic literature. The course also includes the reflection upon the students’ teaching practices through the analysis of specific activities.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will understand basis theoretical questions of the literary education didactic, they will know variety of possible practical (interpretative, reproductive, creative) activities in their literary-educational work with imaginative literature. They will be able to apply these findings in literary-educational activities at kindergartens, and to critically assess the approaches to literary education.
- Syllabus
- 1. Literary education didactic as a science discipline. The position of literary education in pre-school preparation of children, its content and objectives in regards to the fields of pre-school education. 2. Literature as a mediated experience and means of personal development. Reading, literary and cultural literacy, and the beginnings of its development at kindergartens, establishing reading habits. 3. The specifics of the reception process of literary texts by pre-school children (emotional and rational components of reception). How to select texts for pre-school children, the role of literature in the emotional and social development of a child. 4. Preparation of a kindergarten teacher for work with artistic text, guided literary communication. 5. Functions and methods of motivation to activities of literary education. The nature and function of didactic interpretation. 6. Complete overview of the methods of didactic interpretation and their modifications at kindergartens. The nature and function of didactic interpretation. 7. Interpretative work with poetry with pre-school children (examples of the process). 8. Interpretative work with selected prosaic genres (examples of the process). 9. Reproductive activities, children’s recitation. 10. Creative activities for work with literature, verbal, visual. Games as a part of literary-educational activities. 11. Works with children’s book illustrations. Dramatization, the elements of drama education in working with a literary text. 12. Connections to literary-educational activities at the beginning of elementary school attendance.
