Course objectives
After completing the subject, the students should be able to interpret the stylistic theory and understand it. They can apply stylistically knowledge in the communication process, perform linguistic and stylistic analysis of the text and linguistic and stylistic proofreading of the text. They are able to interpret texts and communicate in an linguistically and stylistically appropriate way.
Learning outcomes
The student should be able to: - explain stylistic theory;
- understand it and apply stylistic knowledge in the communication process; - perform linguistic and stylistic analysis of the text, eventually linguistic and stylistic proofreading of text;
- interpret it and, if necessary, defend it and communicate it correctly and stylistically appropriately.
Syllabus
  • 1. Stylistics and language culture, style of text and culture of communication. Stratification of Czech - Standard Czech and non-standard Czech. Dichotomy of Standard Czech and non-standard Czech (functional dichotomy). 2. Language, stylistic / style standards and communication standards. Language mistakes and stylistic / style errors. Language accuracy and stylistic refinement. Preparatory stylization exercises. 3. Stylistic assumptions about the success of public speech and positive argumentation. 4. Textual composition - textual and tectonic construction, horizontal and vertical structure of the text, style procedures and formations / genres - compositional analysis of specific texts. 5. Working with texts - their stylistic analysis; in case of stylistic and compositional weaknesses proofreading of the text; Substitution of language material, event. transformation of the text into another stylistic sphere (official and unofficial texts, prepared and unprepared, monologic and dialogical, spoken and written). 6. Border zones of styles. 7. Impact of stylistic factors on stylistic differentiation in communication. 8. Stylistic value of means of expression, stylistic value of linguistic and compositional means. Stylistic equivalents and differencies; stylistic competitors. 9. Language and stylistic confrontation of texts of different styles. Scientific style and style of popularization of science. 10. Factual styles and styles with aesthetic function (style of artistic literature, fiction, festive speech, essay texts, etc.). 11. Journalistic style and analytical journalistic style . 12. Evaluation of the original production of students - creation of texts of their own choosing and choice of the topic, selection of styles, style and formations / genres.

Teaching methods
Lesson type: seminar, class discussion. A seminar, active analytical students work in the analysis of texts, active synthetic students work in the interpretation of linguistic phenomena, discussion about the professional course issues. Text analysis, identification of selected phenomena text. Students either a) be drawn up in writing and stylistic analysis of the text entered; or b) perform styling (formulation) and compositional text editing.
Assessment methods
Oral exam with the prerequisite of succesful passing of the written part. The content of the written test is given by thematic areas of disciplin comprising approximately 15 teaching tasks. Student must correctly solve 70 % of them. The prerequisite for the students to sit the oral part of the examination is to pass the written test. On the oral exam, the student draws from about 15 test circuits published at the beginning of the semester. The final mark is a summary of the written and oral exam scores. If the student completes the written part of the exam, but the oral examination no longer repeats the oral part in the given examination period. The prerequisite for access to the exam is the fulfillment of the assigned continuous tasks and tests.
