- Course objectives
- The goal is to gain basic knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the word, its functioning within the language system, the role and functions of the different language levels. The course is devoted to basic information about the theoretical aspect of the word, which is regarded as the basic unit of language, which has its own specific historical development. The current vocabulary of the Russian language is being investigated by several aspects, eg. Historical development, semantic, morphological changes and changes the meaning of the word.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the student will be able to: - to characterize basic terms from the field of lexicology, - will know the basic scientific disciplines and the subject of lexicology research, - will be oriented in the characteristics of the word, its origin and changes in meaning, - will be familiar with the current trends in the development of Russian vocabulary and the tendency to learn foreign languages.

- 1. The word as a basic unit of language. Lexikology a second area of scientific research. 3. The words Indo-European, Proto-Slavonic and East Slavic. 4. The words of the original and borrowed. 5. The words Slavonic. 6. Calque. 7. Archaisms and historicism. 8. Neologisms. 9. Word formation and changes of meaning. 10. Changes vocabulary in the Soviet period. 11. Changes vocabulary in the 90s of the last century. 12. Contemporary changes in the development of vocabulary.
