Course objectives
The course focuses on various areas of lifelong learning and the activation and education of the adult and elderly population. The students will become acquainted with several important topics which concern andragogy and gerontagogy. They will notice the links between these disciplines and social work, multicultural education, social education, etc. Andragogy concerns a number of target groups, e.g. the socially disadvantaged, migrants or minorities. It also incorporates lifelong learning, teaching methodology, principles, methods and forms of teaching adults, teaching as a way of communicating with adults, self-education, free time, non-conventional teaching approaches, retraining, motivation for learning, distance study, vocational training, function of education at a post-productive age, the concept of old age and activation of the elderly. The course also discusses the social situation of selected elderly groups and ageism. The students will gain knowledge, which they will be able to broadly apply in practice.
Learning outcomes
During the seminars the students will ponder social mobility and changes in the life opportunities in the current society. They will react to selected topics presented during the course, democratisation of the society and therewith connected social ascent of an individual. Other pillars may be employment, the role of education and business, perceiving changes in life opportunities, education at a post-productive age, social situation of the elderly in the Czech Republic and abroad, ageing, etc. Adult education in the world – trends, availability, options, areas of vocational training and distance education.
Syllabus
  • 1. Andragogy, its significance and purpose, current situation in adult education and trends. 2. Lifelong learning and education in contemporary Czech Republic and abroad, difference between lifelong learning and education. Trends in lifelong learning. 3. Methodology of teaching adults, forms, methods, methodological structure and principles in education, listening pyramid, project planning. Phases of the creative process of project planning in andragogy. 4. Teaching adults as a communication process, assertive communication, adult creativity, alternative teaching methods. 5. Adult self-education, leisure time of adults and adults in leisure time. Various alternatives of self-education. 6. Areas of retraining, current job market situation, unemployment and retraining, training programmes available to adults (prison life, social work, etc.). 7. Old age as a social phenomenon, gerontagogy as a discipline of the future. Brief overview of the psychology of ageing, the philosophy and sociology of ageing, the function of education at a post-productive age. Universities of the third age, clubs for the elderly, activation of seniors. 8. Additional topics connected with the elderly population, seniors and selected social issues, institutionalised seniors, ageism. 9. Comparative andragogy, adult education in selected countries, adult education in third world countries. 10. Introduction into vocational training, business training, distance learning, history, compiling a distance study material. 11. Project planning as a part of the work of a social educator, project creation.

Teaching methods
V rámci distanční části výuky plní úkoly vyučujícího dle zadání v e-learningového kurzu. Mimo jiné studenti zpracují seminární práci v uvedeném rozsahu a vloží ji do e-learningového kurzu daného předmětu do data uvedeného v kurzu. 1) Studenti vytvoří snímek volného času podle pokynů vyučujícího (viz kurzy v moodlince) 2) Vytvoření distančního textu (viz kurzy v moodlince), rozsah pět a více stran, téma z oblasti andragogiky, sociální práce nebo multikulturní výchovy. Instruktáž proběhne v rámci výuky, popřípadě mohou napsat esej k zamyšlení nad vlastním celoživotním učením.
