Course objectives
The course provides students with basic insight into inclusive education. It offers space to discuss and reflect one's own attitudes and beliefs concerning inclusion and diversity. We will touch the topic of disability and society as well. Through reading, discussions, practical activities and problem-solving, we will explore how communication, education and activities within and outside school can be enhanced to include students with various needs.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will: - understand and explain concepts of mainstreaming, empowerment, inclusion and inclusive education; - be able to explain basic principles of inclusive and special education; - reflect his/her own attitude towards diversity and its influence on pedagogical practice; - explain pros and cons of various forms of education of pupils with SEND with respect to the type of pupils´ special needs; - apply the concept of differentiation in education to simple education situations; - based on the acquired knowledge students will propose basic solutions in multidisciplinary team. - have acquired basic theoretical and practical knowledge for individual work respecting pupils individual needs and work with heterogeneous group.

  • 1. Inclusive education 2. Legislation and international documents concerning inclusive education 3. Child, pupil, student with special educational needs/disability (SEND) 4. Work with heterogenenous group of pupils at school and in free-time activites 5. Collaboration in multidisciplinary team 6. Support needs based on a pupil´s health disability or health condition 9. Support needs derived from a pupil´s cultural environment and other life conditions 10. Support needs of pupils in substantial risk of school failure

Teaching methods
lecture, group discussion, discussion with experts, problem learning, role plays, assigned reading (according to e-learning sylabus), group work and work with case studies
Assessment methods
To be awarded credits, the students have to: - have at least 80% attendance; - assigned reading, discussions and peer feedback - team project and its presentation.
