Course objectives
The aim of the course is to improve language and communication skills in Russian, specifically:
- expanding vocabulary on selected topics (at A1+ - A2 level);
- mastering selected grammatical topics (at the A1+ - A2 level);
- developing reading comprehension skills, listening to (authentic) texts and videos in Russian;
- improvement of oral (monologic and dialogic; prepared and spontaneous) and written (short texts, coherent essays; handwritten vs. typed) expression;
- the acquisition and consolidation of basic punctuation rules and their use in written expression;
- understanding of problematic linguistic phenomena through comparison with Czech or another foreign language;
- consolidation of knowledge and skills in phonetics and phonology;
- acquiring the habits of working with various electronic resources (dictionaries, corpora, AI, etc.);
- consolidation of existing knowledge at all levels of the language.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- communicate in Russian within the framework of the topics covered;
- apply new grammar and vocabulary in oral and written expression;
- understand written and oral texts in Russian at A1+ - A2 level;
- correctly pronounce acquired Russian words and intonate Russian sentences;
- look up the necessary vocabulary and grammar in electronic resources.

Teaching methods
Seminars which include:
- reading and listening to Russian texts;
- translation, supplementary and other exercises, including interactive ones; work in pairs and groups (role-plays, etc.);
- essay work;
- writing posts in the IS discussion forum;
- making audio and video recordings;
- creating presentations/posters and presenting them at the seminar (independent and project activities);
- regular assignment of compulsory homework and its proper completion;
- continuous independent preparation.
Assessment methods
In order to be admitted to the exam, attendance and mandatory homework must be completed.
The examination of mastery of the subject consists of a written and an oral part.
Written part - test (the whole semester's material). The test must be written at 75%.
After successful completion of the written test, the student signs up for the oral part of the exam, which includes:
- analysis and correction of errors in the test,
- a conversation on topics learned throughout the semester (the conversation is based on a description of a picture or photograph);
- creating a dialogue in pairs on a given situation.
The duration of the oral part is approximately 20-30 minutes.
Linguistic accuracy and level of communication and interaction skills in written and oral expression are assessed.

1. Attendance records and the obligation to excuse absences (attendance and completion of homework are prerequisites for admission to the examination);

2. recommendations for registration and enrolment in RJ1103 Conversation Exercise 3 (the content of which is an extension of the basic conversational topics of the compulsory course Practical Language Exercises and their application in practice with the main emphasis on the development of dialogical and monological speech);

3. outgoing students studying abroad: (a) on the basis of an individual assessment, a course abroad may be recognised for its corresponding content if it is duly taken and completed; b) Otherwise, to be admitted to the examination, mandatory homework must be handed in and written and oral examinations must be passed upon return from abroad.
