Course objectives
The aim of the course is to integrate and, at a higher level of generality, systematize approaches and concepts that students have acquired in other subjects of the study plan. Broader – philosophical and ethical – contexts of social pedagogy and leisure education as a field of theory, profession and practice and overarching concepts that will enable partial knowledge to be organized into broader content units will be mediated. The aim of the course is to lead students to their own systematic thought reflection of philosophical and ethical aspects of upbringing and education in disadvantaged environments and in the leisure area. From the point of view of pedagogy, the course combines selected philosophical, sociological and psychological approaches.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- understand selected philosophical and ethical contexts of social pedagogy as a field of theory, profession and practice
- use overarching concepts to organize partial knowledge into integrated wholes
- perceive the importance and role of a systematic, historical and comparative approach in social and leisure pedagogy
- see the interdisciplinary nature of social pedagogy and leisure pedagogy
- critically reflect on subject topics and their relationship to socio-pedagogical theory and practice
- critically read and interpret related professional texts
- present your professional opinions and decisions using adequate arguments
Syllabus
  • • Philosophical approaches, ideas and theoretical perspectives on the subject of pedagogy (spiritual, critical-rationalist, system-theoretic, pragmatist, constructivist approaches).
  • • Institutions, organizations and fields of action of social and leisure pedagogy (families, schools, educational institutes, youth homes, leisure centers, interest education organizations, cultural and educational institutions).
  • • Addressees of social and leisure pedagogy (children, youth, adults, seniors) and their developmental and educational needs.
  • • Forms of socio-pedagogical action (work with individual cases, work with groups, work with wider communities) and pedagogical processes (personalization, socialization, enculturation, upbringing, education, counseling, prevention, education).
  • • Current challenges (social and educational inequalities, discrimination - affirmative action, information explosion, onlife being and learning, the COVID 19 pandemic) and their reflection in socio-pedagogical theory and practice.

Teaching methods
lecture, analysis of texts, analysis of cases, group discussion
Assessment methods
Regular study and reading evidenced by well-filled study forms. Active participation in teaching and discussions. Final exam with extensive individual and collective preparation.
Format of the exam: The exam is oral, based on interaction with the examiner. Evaluated: Relevance of information and resources. Ability to present your prepared topic as a well-organized argument. Respond to questions asked. The ability to link a topic to related topics. Ability to apply knowledge in the context of socio-pedagogical theory and practice.
