- Course objectives
- This is an obligatory seminar for 2nd year students of both the 4-year and 5-year studies, designed to practise individual linking devices used in formal and informal English to form well-written texts with varied types of sentences, linked richly and accurately according to the current need.
- Syllabus
- 1. Complex and compound sentences. Subject and predicate. 2. Verb phrase. 3. Auxiliary verbs and primary verbs. 4. Subject - verb agreement. Completers. 5. Transitive verbs and objects. 6. Intransitive verbs and adverbials. Linking verbs and complements. 7. Sentence analysis. Subordinate clauses. 8. Relation between result and cause. Result expressed with "too" or "enough". 9. Linking: purpose. Standard and shortened constructions. 10. Linking: concession. Linking: cause, purpose, concession (alternative). 11. Linking: time. 12. Linking: relative. Sentence building with relatives. 13. Adverbial clauses. Conjunctive adverbs. Non-finite adverbial clauses. 14. Noun clauses - finite and non-finite. Infinitives in noun clauses. 15. Synthesis: working with texts. Revision translations.
