Course objectives
This course is based around the performance of drama. The spring semester will be devoted to the performance of a play written in the fall semester. Students will be able to participate in a performance in a real theatre.
The main objectives of the course in the spring semester are to allow students to practice their English in a controlled environment. The course will also help build experience in performing in front of an audience, something that is essential for future teachers of English. Students will be able to focus on pronunciation and stress in English as well as the connections between speech and action.
Syllabus
  • We will begin by assigning parts within the play. Then we will gradually work through the play, memorizing our lines and learning how to perform them. Finally we will have a performance.

Teaching methods
The class is based around the practical application of the dramatic process.
Assessment methods
Because the class is based mainly around performance, attendance is strictly required. Absences that are not explained in advance will not be tolerated. Students are also expected to participate fully in class work, being active participants in the acting process. Students can take other roles than acting (directing, stage managing, etc.), but anyone who does not take part in the final performance will not get credit for the class.
