Course objectives
Students should be able to explain basic knowledge of the Earth and universe (Planetary geography) such as the knowledge of the basic influences and laws forming a landscape sphere, which includes mainly geographical consequences of the shape, size and mass of the Earth, its movements and the consequences resulting from the position of the Earth in the universe. Student explain a interpret knowledge of the orientation on the Earth surface and measurement and determination of time; describe the role of individual elements of physically geographical sphere.

  • 1. The introduction to the study of the planet of Earth
  • 2. The definition of planetar geography and its place in the system of geographical sciences
  • 3. The universe, objects and distances, basical astronomical notions
  • 4. Illusive movement of objects on the celestial sphere and their alignments
  • 5. The bases of spatial oriantation on the Earth
  • 6. Time and calendary
  • 7. Basic time units and the methods of the determination of the time
  • 8. Earth, its shape, size, and mass
  • 9. Earth and Earth's axis moves and their evidences and consequences
  • 10. Earth´s physical fields

Assessment methods
For successful conclusion students have to write a final test with min. 50% points. Oral examination come next. If the oral examination is not successfull, written test will be required in next attempt.
